Schiesser Revival Karl-heinz Henry neck T-shirt

This article is a mobile-friendly adaptation of the piece I wrote for my sister site, Hooked-on: "Schiesser Revival Karl-heinz." If the subject interests you, I encourage you to visit the original on Hooked-on as well.

Images on this site are formatted for mobile in a vertical layout, which can appear oversized on a desktop screen. If that bothers you, the Hooked-on version may be easier to read.

Summer means more T-shirts. The Schiesser Revival Karl-heinz henley is one I reach for often — the construction is right, and so is the way it wears.

Schiesser Revival

Oversized has taken over — most T-shirts today are cut with room to spare. Finding a well-made fitted T-shirt has become genuinely difficult. The Schiesser Revival Karl-heinz henley is one that has held its standard without shifting: the same quality, the same close fit, made the same way.

The construction details are specific. Organic cotton, soft but substantial. The silhouette follows the body. Long sleeves, long ribbed cuffs cut tight to the wrist. The henley opening is cut deep, with a slightly wider neck rib than you'd expect. The body length runs long, and a reinforcing panel runs from the neck across the shoulders at the back.

Because it follows the body closely, it reads your shape back at you — which makes it a reliable measure of where things stand. The fit isn't just through the torso and chest; the sleeves are cut to sit against the upper arm. On someone with a bit of build there, the result is a naturally masculine line that doesn't require any effort to achieve.

Originally designed as an undershirt — a German brand, made for that purpose — but it reads as anything but. I wear it with 501XX, field jackets, whatever's in rotation.

Styling

It works with almost anything, which is part of why it gets worn so often. I keep three: white, navy, and black. White and black go with the 501XX and Lee 101-Z most of the time; the navy pairs with a heavily faded 1960s 502.

Levi's 502 60s

A heavily faded 502 with repairs throughout, paired with the navy Schiesser Revival Karl-heinz. The fabric holds well, the ribbing stays firm, and the reinforcement at the back keeps the neck from losing its shape.

The fitted cut brings out some physical presence — a straightforwardly masculine quality without needing to try.

A heavily faded pair of jeans and a fitted navy T-shirt — it's a combination that requires no thought, which is why it gets worn so often.

The reinforcement at the neck does its job — even with regular wear, the collar holds its shape.

The packaging is careful — boxed, in the way that a good dress shirt from FRAY might come. For a T-shirt, that says something.

The white. No styling examples this time, but it wears just as well.

Details.

  • 100% organic cotton, Egyptian cotton
  • Shell buttons
  • Fitted silhouette that follows the body
  • Fabric is soft but substantial enough that the white doesn't show through
  • Deep neckline
  • Long sleeves with wide, tight ribbed cuffs
  • Long body length

Conclude.

Blue jeans and a white T-shirt is a summer standard. Wearing the Schiesser Revival Karl-heinz henley — with the attention to fabric and detail that goes into it — shifts that combination somewhere a little different.

The cotton is soft and comfortable enough that it's become a summer fixture for me. Jeans are the natural pairing, but it works just as well with shorts, military trousers, or chinos. One to have in rotation.

Post78

The Schiesser Revival Karl-heinz henley comes from Post78. (Domestic Japan only.)

Post78 is run by an owner with a serious eye for clothing — domestic and international pieces, well-made and built to last. A small but well-chosen selection of vintage from the US and Europe. I buy here regularly, and the conversations about clothes with the owner are part of why I keep coming back.
