I've written up the process of configuring Drupal to run on a Mac. For my generation, the Mac was the original GUI computer — not something you'd associate with software development. Since OS X, however, it's been a Unix-based OS, which makes it a natural fit for server-side operations and a genuinely convenient platform for building websites.
I've been a devoted MacBook user for the past several years. I'm drawn to the consistency that comes from Apple's tight control over its ecosystem — the hardware quality, the unified macOS interface, and the way it all works with iPhone. The move to ARM has brought real improvements in power efficiency and performance per watt. The downside is that Apple's marketing is far too effective, and I find myself wanting a new model on a regular basis.
