In summer, I wear a lot of blue jeans, so I have more opportunities to wear white T-shirts. I was looking for a good, universal white T-shirt, and I found the Wasew crew neck T-shirt, which I think is the perfect basic white T-shirt, and I use it a lot. This time, I would like to introduce this T-shirt.
As you can see from the photo at the bottom of the page, the base design is based on Hanes pack T-shirts. Over the past 10 years or so, we have been developing products that modify standard American items using current Japanese technology, and while having a finish that is more authentic than the real thing, they also overcome the weaknesses of the original.
The Wasew T-shirts we are introducing this time are made in a way that they will look their best when worn in, just like Hanes T-shirts. This idea is also used in the Japan Denim 501-inspired jeans, which are made in a way that you can buy a pair of rigid denim jeans and enjoy the cool colour fading of vintage 501s.
Returning to the subject, Wasew T-shirts have the same form as Hanes pack T-shirts, but the styling is also slightly more modern, and the shape is designed to make you look good when you wear it, so, just like the original Hanes pack T-shirts, they shrink and crease as you wear them, and they age in a unique way.
Hanes's pack T-shirts are like the original 501s, and they have their own world, but one problem is that the nipples are easily visible through them. Wasew has overcome this weakness by making them a little thicker and using a fabric made from softer cotton that is loosely woven, so they are comfortable to wear and have a beautiful style, making them excellent white T-shirts.
The great thing about Wasew is that, while it creates a beautiful style, it doesn't ruin the shape of the Hanes, so the atmosphere when you wear it doesn't ruin the image of an American-style T-shirt, and when you wear it with 501s, you can easily create a cool, mainstream American style.
Although Schiesser Revival is introduced in a separate section, it is made in Germany and has a European style, with a tight fit and long sleeves, giving a stoic, slightly tense style, but Wasew is a little looser, with shorter sleeves, and although it is not a loose fit, it has a relaxed American style, and if you can use this style with different jackets, you can create an interesting outfit.
From my childhood, I have always loved crew neck T-shirts, and in the days before Hanes and other imported brands, I used to wear Japanese brands like Gunze and BVD, wearing them in the way we would wear a top today, or as underwear. When I was in high school, the kind of shops that would later become the forerunners of today's boutique shops started to appear, and brands like Hanes became more accessible.
Like the Levi's 501, the Hanes crew neck T-shirt is a product that was originally designed for everyday use, but has become a symbol of American culture, and both the original and the products that have evolved from it have become fashion icons in the modern era.
Although they were originally made for mass consumption, they are now valued as a fashion item motif in the history of clothing, which often has different values in later generations, because of their excellent functionality, which was their original purpose.
This motif is used in the Wasew crew neck T-shirts, which are made using the world-class clothing manufacturing technology of Okayama and modified.
As a side note, when I get into a fashion discussion with someone from the generation just above mine, the topic of VAN comes up. VAN's proposal of modern fashion for young men led men who had previously been indifferent to fashion to become more conscious of their appearance.
At the time, the things that people could use as fashion references were things like the clothes worn by musicians in films and music magazines, and at the time in Japan there was no concept of T-shirts, and the underwear seen in American films were T-shirts, and they only had V-necks, not crew-necks , so they would wear this underwear under their shirts and jackets as a substitute for T-shirts, but I was told that they would wear it inside out to make it look like a crew neck, and I was impressed by this amazing story.
The evolution of Japanese clothing technology includes the original dyeing and fabric manufacturing techniques, but the fact that they were able to take an idea that didn't exist in Japan and change it with their own unique ideas is shown in the anecdote above about wearing a V-neck inside out to make it look like a crew neck, and I think that this kind of idea evolved and was sublimated into world-class clothing technology.
I know I'm going off on a tangent, but the idea of Wasew evolving Hanes T-shirts as a motif somehow overlaps with the story of the crew neck T-shirt above, and I'm writing this article.
I feel that the idea of twisting the fabric to make the nipples opaque and to calculate the shape of the creases is probably only something that Japanese people would think of. There is a similarity between this idea and the fading of vintage 501s, and originally, fading was something that was not liked because of the deterioration it caused. However, during the process of the Japanese market being formed, the value was placed on the fading of the so-called ‘beard’ and ‘hachinosu’ colours were given value, and the idea of developing products that were prone to such deterioration or that were processed in such a way from the outset, and the fact that the value of the local Japanese market has spread worldwide is something that I find very interesting.
Wearing blue jeans and a white T-shirt in a cool way is one of the universal themes of men's fashion, and although there are differences in awareness, I think that everyone has thought about it at least once. However, it is not just about dressing up, so I think that the essence is largely formed by the elements that the person wearing it has, including a toned body and a natural tan.
One of the criteria for men's fashion that I naturally consider is that the clothes should not be in the foreground. It might be easier to understand if I said that the clothes should look natural and not like you're trying too hard.
The reason I value the Wasew crew neck that I'm introducing this time is that it makes the things you wear look natural, including when they've been slightly stretched out by washing, and even when they've deteriorated, they don't look sloppy, and even if you wear them without thinking about it, they make you look like you've become familiar with them.
There are times when you can wear clothes that are highly tense and interesting in fashion, but we think that Wasew's crew neck is a valuable item that you can wear naturally without feeling tense.
The playfulness of the Hanes pack T-shirt is also part of the fun of Wasew.

- The fabric is soft and a little thick, so it's not see-through, despite being a white T-shirt.
- The neckline is normal
- The sleeves are short, and the cuffs have thick ribbing, giving them a little extra room.
- The length is also normal
- Crew neck T-shirt : Wasew, size M

The reason I like American casual wear, such as jeans, military clothing and second-hand clothes, is that I can wear them in my own way, but they also have a style that doesn't try too hard and a relaxed feel. I think there are probably quite a few people who think the same way.
For this reason, you can enjoy the classic American style in a wonderful way by wearing the Wasew crew neck, which has improved on the weaknesses of the classic Hanes style, as your summer staple. It's soft and comfortable, so it's become my summer staple. It goes well with not just jeans, but also shorts, military pants, chinos, etc., so it's useful to have one because you don't have to choose your pants.
