Japanese manufacturing is wonderful, and high quality is the norm, and this quality is reflected in clothes that respect vintage. The CIOTA jeans we are introducing this time are tapered straight jeans that reflect the taste of the 1966 501s. They are dyed in indigo and reproduce the texture of the 66 model 501 jeans that have been worn in.
When we took the photos this time, it was almost impossible to tell the difference between the fading of the indigo blue of the vintage 501XX and that of the CIOTA jeans. There is a world view in which you can wear the taste of vintage jeans in good condition without being overawed.
When the staff at the store that introduced me to CIOTA jeans explained the products in detail, they told me that the brand was particular about the way its products were made and the concept behind them, but that this was not something that was obvious on the outside, and that the clothes could be worn casually and without any sense of pretension in the current era. They also told me that the store's concept was to select similar products, and when I saw the products on display in the store, I understood what they meant.
When I heard that CIOTA's products were based on the fashion that students and young people in the mid-80s wore as a matter of course, I looked at the products other than the jeans I'm introducing this time, and I remembered cotton poplin white shirts, unlined cotton navy blue jackets, and slightly loose hoodies, and I was reminded of a nostalgic development.
At the time, the style of white shirt, Levi's 501, tassel shoes and navy blue blazer was introduced in the magazine ‘Popeye’, and I remember that Paul Weller was the symbol of this style. At the time, even if you said 501, it was either new or second-hand (not vintage, but old clothes), and I remember that the value was different to how it is now. Nowadays, even 501s have an antique-like value, and I think people are wearing them with an awareness of the differences between different years,
but when I think about it now, I remember that in the past, people were choosing 501s based on the details and elements that the times demanded, rather than on the year or value.
In the 1970s, flares and boot cuts were in fashion, and the fashion industry was changing from hippie culture to something new, so it makes sense that he chose straight-leg 501 jeans as something new.
When I was working in a major fashion boutique in the 21st century, I heard an anecdote about Paul Weller from a friend who was known as a charismatic salesperson, but what actually made Paul Weller look cool was the idea of the representative of the major fashion boutique who later became famous, and when he was working for an advertising agency. I was surprised by his foresight when I learned that, in the 80s, he was selling products by creating image characters that young people would aspire to, and then promoting and spreading that image, rather than directly advertising the products.
Ciota jeans are made with a lot of attention to detail, including elements such as the indigo dyeing of the 501s, but by making them with a theme of a time when the details of the 501s were not so important, they are jeans that, when you look closely, have a lot of attention to detail in them, but are made in an interesting way so that you don't notice this.
This gives the impression of being a vintage jean that you can wear without any fuss, but which is actually a high-quality jean that has been carefully crafted. I wear these jeans all the time, even in summer, without worrying about washing them, so they get a lot of wear. I say that you can wear them without any fuss, but they look really cool when you wear them, and when I saw how I looked in them during the photo shoot, I realised that they are just as nice as the 501XX and Lee 101Z.

Rather than the famous Levi's or Lee, or even foreign brands, CIOTA jeans are made by a small Japanese brand that makes the most of the best of Japanese manufacturing, with a vintage look that has been updated for the modern age. The designer's stance is to respect the history of the past, and while being particular about the production, the brand develops products with an interesting concept that is not likely to be found elsewhere: a vintage look that is not too flashy and can be worn without any fuss.
Because the element of special jeans is not pushed too much, you can wear them often in your daily life, and they are excellent jeans that you can wear in summer without worrying about washing them. CIOTA makes clothes that you can wear without feeling nervous, such as T-shirts, shirts, jackets and hoodies, with the same attention to detail as their jeans, but with a unique, relaxed feel that is characteristic of CIOTA. We make excellent clothes that can be used for a wide range of purposes, from everyday shopping to going out.
TF Official Online Shop
Shop Introduction
The CIOTA jeans introduced in this article were purchased at a select shop in Tokyo called TF. Like CIOTA, TF also selects its products with the concept of everyday clothes that you can wear without being too self-conscious, while still being particular about the quality of the products.
The shop is located on a street with a reasonable-width pavement, so you can enjoy shopping in a relaxed atmosphere, away from the busy, bustling atmosphere of the city.
A stylish shop in a residential area
The staff are friendly and have good taste, and the shop is not that big, so they have a thorough grasp of the products in the store and can give detailed explanations about any item you ask about. The products look like ordinary items, but they are made with great attention to detail, and when you pick them up and try them on, you'll understand why they are so popular.
The appeal of Made in Japan
The products they handle are mainly made in Japan, and while they are basic, they have a twist to them, so no matter which clothes you choose, they have a sense of understated quality, and I recommend this shop to anyone looking for good everyday clothes with a sense of quality that doesn't stand out too much.
In addition to the CIOTA jeans and hoodie I've introduced here, I also bought a CIOTA white shirt, a navy blue jacket, a light brown suede Chambord from Paraboot, and a pair of SUNY glasses.
The staff also told me an interesting story about how the shop's name ‘TF’ came about: the shop was previously occupied by a tofu shop.
