The Brunello Cucinelli flagship boutique on the Ginza strip in Tokyo. Cashmere knitwear is what the name calls to mind, and the quality here is exactly what that reputation promises — at a level where Loro Piana is the only real point of comparison. Beyond the knitwear, the floor carries casual outerwear, jackets, coats, and suits, all chosen with the same attention to fabric and construction.
Shirts, lightweight knits, T-shirts, ties, pocket squares, and shoes — the Brunello Cucinelli world extends through every category, and whatever direction you take, the selection holds together.
The staff are welcoming and unhurried. Many have long backgrounds in clothing, and their knowledge of cut and fabric shows in how they advise: the fit suggestions are precise, the combinations they propose are ones you wouldn't arrive at on your own. Sizing is taken seriously. Because the fittings are done carefully, with the actual wearer in mind, the satisfaction doesn't stop at the counter — it carries through into the wearing.

Field jackets, tailored jackets, knitwear, T-shirts, shirts, shoes, and shearling leather pieces — I've bought and worn them all from here, and keep coming back. The quality and the staff's attentiveness to how you actually dress make it difficult not to. The price point means nothing gets bought on impulse, but the staff are kind enough that I find myself stopping by anyway.
Something I haven't written about in the articles: the cashmere knitwear here is in a different category entirely. Even after repeated friction from a seatbelt, it doesn't pill. The only other cashmere I've owned that held up that way was a Lucien Pellat-Finet piece in twisted Scottish cashmere — but this doesn't carry the firmness that Pellat-Finet tends toward. To be precise, friction does leave some trace, but nothing like what you'd see on a standard cashmere knit; a light brush after wearing and it comes back.
It's not just the knitwear. Every category here operates at a different level in terms of material and construction. The fit is comfortable, the result is an unstudied ease you don't have to work for. In a way, this is the brand that people who have spent years seriously engaged with clothing eventually settle on.
